Could a 4-day week really be key to your business success?
Here at JV we try to implement a 4.5 day week where we can, giving ourselves a morning or afternoon off each week to just focus on ourselves. We have found that our productivity levels improve and we feel happier and more refreshed at work as a result.
Findings from a recent six-month study (see link below) show that more than 9 out of 10 companies that adopted a four-day working week are going to continue with it after seeing significant benefits of the change. Participating companies saw a rise in revenue over the trial period compared with the same time the previous year, as well as a significant fall in the number of staff leaving.
Benefits of a 4 day week
Reported improvement in employee mental wellbeing
Productivity levels rise
Improved work-life balance
Attract higher-quality candidates to your business
Cons of a 4 day week
Could impact employee communication if people are off on different days
Productivity could see a fall when it becomes the new norm
Workload remains the same so some may find it difficult to complete in 4 days
Lots of industries where this would not work, such as education
Work-life balance is very important to us and we champion the idea of a 4 day week. However, if businesses are to implement this change, it would be so important to closely monitor productivity levels and have regular check-ins with employees to ensure that productivity levels don’t start to dwindle over time as it becomes less of a perk and more of the norm.
Sunny wishes,
Jo & Vic
