Making New Year’s Resolutions
Do you think they are fab or a bit of a fad?
What does it mean to you?
Well, what better way to start our first blog of 2024 than with a big Happy New Year! It’s a new year, a new month and a time where many have made their new year’s resolutions. But what relevance does this actually have; why make the changes now?
Whether you have made resolutions for yourself or for your business, we can agree that the new year feels like a bit of a clean slate and a chance to implement beneficial changes. It is absolutely vital to consider the components of your goals. How many times have you set yourself a new year’s resolution and it’s gone out the window by the second week of January?! The goals you have set must at least be achievable, measurable and have some sort of time-boundary.
Fab:
January 1st is a great benchmark when looking at the progress of your goal.
Encourages you to make new habits you may not have been motivated enough to start during the year.
Lots of people are making changes, it feels good to be in it together.
Fad:
Can make you less productive in December as you think “it’s ok, I’ll change that in January”.
Often goals are set to make ourselves feel better and without enough thought. Not sticking to them, or making them unrealistic, can cause us to feel as though we have failed.
There is lots of pressure to make resolutions or changes, even when they might not be necessary.
For some, the thought of changing a habit for a whole year can be quite daunting, so it is best to break it down into bite size chunks. For example, challenge yourself to Dry January and if it goes well, extend it to the next month.
Although the new year is a great opportunity to make changes and a good benchmark to note when the changes were made, it is important to remember that you can implement these at any time during the year as the new year really is just an arbitrary time for reinvention.
Let’s go, 2024!
Sunny wishes,
Jo & Vic
