Why we HATE social media…

Ok, maybe it’s more of a love-hate relationship

Now, that might sound weird considering that a huge amount of our work is on social media; from management and reporting on accounts through to researching and curating content.

Don’t get us wrong, social media is great. It connects people, it educates people and it allows people to share their business with the world. However, there are a number of downsides to it, both for businesses and individuals…

From a business point of view, here are just a few of the things that are less than ideal:

  • The ever changing nature of it

  • How one bad comment or review can send you business down

  • Getting asked: ‘So, do you just scroll through Facebook all day?”

  • Spending ages curating a post to get little to no engagement and then posting something quick and simple another day and getting loads…

From a more personal point of view:

  • Often not reality

  • Can bring out the worst in people, as they don’t feel so accountable for their words (especially if on a fake account!)

  • There is a huge amount of false and misleading information out there, it can be hard to filter your way through it

  • Aimless scrolling is such a time waster, but so many of us fall into the trap

HOWEVER, there are of course some really amazing things about social media:

  • You can connect with so many people, even on the other side of the world

  • It really allows you to bring out your creative side

  • You can target your advertising so it hits the right demographic

  • It’s opened up new jobs for people, such as social media managers and influencers

It will be interesting to see where the next few years take us with social media; what the advancements will be, which platforms are on the rise, and whether photo or video content is preferred. For now, we just have to keep adapting to new and upcoming trends and focus on all the brilliant things that it allows us to do.

Sunny wishes,

Jo & Vic
